Transport Innovation Fund
Reading Borough
Council has been successful in its application for Transport Innovation
Fund pump priming from the Department for Transport for a second
time, securing a total of £2.2m of additional
funding to continue to investigate congestion issues and appropriate
solutions.
This follows a successful bid in November 2006 for similar investigative
work, which was used to conduct extensive travel surveys last summer,
amongst other things. The additional funding will be used to further
develop and appraise a package of transport proposals, leading to
a possible bid for more substantive funding to implement a wide package
of measures to tackle congestion.
At this time the TIF package of proposals is not fixed but covers
the type of measures set out in the Reading Borough Council and neighbouring
authorities' Local Transport Plans. It is proposed that any forthcoming
package would be designed to deliver benefits mainly to the area
of Greater Reading.
