The Forbury Hotel
The Forbury Hotel has been awarded five star status by the AA.
Planning
The application
to change the use of Garrard House (20 Garrard Street), from offices
to a 106 bed apart-hotel, with a spa at basement level and a café at ground floor level has been granted (February’s
enews refers).
Central floral displays
New floral displays will be installed across the centre this month
with additional business-funded displays in Queen Victoria Street,
Cross Street, Market Place and at key road junctions.
Station Hill
The Secretary
of State has decided to ‘call in’ Sackville
Developments’ application for the redevelopment of the Station
Hill area, which was granted consent by the Council’s planning
committee in March. A final decision will be made following a public
inquiry to be held later this year.
Inward investment
BG Group of Thames Valley Park has launched a GBP 6.1bn takeover
bid for Origin Energy of Australia, in order to strengthen its position
in the growing global market for liquefied natural gas.
Political control of Reading Borough Council
Following
this year's local elections in Reading and discussions between
all three political parties on Reading Borough Council, new arrangements
have been put in place. The three political parties have agreed
that Labour will lead a minority administration for the new Municipal
Year 2008/09, with the Conservative and Liberal Democrat groups sharing the Chairs of the Scrutiny Panels. The
next local elections are in 2010.
