Independent
Member of Reading Borough Council’s Standards
Committee
Reading Borough
Council (RBC) is looking to appoint up to two Independent Members
to join the Authority’s Standards Committee, which promotes
and maintains high standards of conduct by Members of the Council,
and supports them in observing the National Code of Conduct for
Members.
RBC is looking
in particular for applications from people aged over 18 who live
or work in the Borough or Reading, or otherwise have close links
with it, and who are independent of the Council and do not have
a public link to any political party. You should have a proven
track record of making a contribution to the community; be familiar
with ethical dilemmas; have experience of committee work; and have
good inter-personal skills, in particular being assertive, with
good questioning skills.
You should also
be able to attend meetings of the Standards Committee, which may
be held either during the day or in the evening, during the working
week, and may be lengthy. An attendance allowance of £32.25
a day is payable when attending meetings of the Committee’s
Sub-Committees.

2tenfm
2tenfm was recently
acquired by Global Radio, the largest owner of commercial radio
in Britain, and has announced a major investment in local programming
and marketing as part of a plan to increase its relationship with
local listeners and advertisers.
The new investment
is part of a multi million pound re-brand over the next 12 to 18
months, which will see 2tenfm becoming the "Heart "of Berkshire
and North Hampshire. The change to the Heart brand will be progressive
and made into all existing local programmes.
Dragons Den comes to Whitley
Whitley Arts
Festival is looking for local businesses to take part in a Dragons
Den event. Just like the real TV show they want to seat the business
men and women in the big black chairs and see if they can be convinced
to invest.
Rather than parting
with thousands of pounds for a percentage of a company, they are
asking local business to support the Whitley Arts Festival, a local
festival created to enhance the lives of local people.
Some students
from schools in the area have been selected to take part in a business
course; learning presentational skills, budgeting, creating a pitch,
etc. At the end of the course the Dragons Den event will put their
newly learned skills to the test.
They are looking
for pledges of anywhere between £500 and £2000
to support various aspects of the festival, such as programmes, the
community showcase, arts & craft workshops for the young.
It is hoped that
the ‘Dragons’ that
come along will ask the students questions about their product
and their proposal, and award them with a pledge; should their
efforts be deemed good enough.
The event is
planned to be held on Tuesday 23 October, with the venue to be
confirmed and covered by local press and TV.
Would you be prepared to be a Dragon?
